Jurassic World Rebirth’: New Images Hint at a ‘Jaws’-Inspired Atmosphere

Cinema’s Most Iconic Dinosaurs Return in Jurassic World Rebirth Next Summer

Next summer, the beloved dinosaurs of cinema make their return in Jurassic World Rebirth, with acclaimed director Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, The Creator) at the helm. This time, Edwards aims to scale back on heavy visual effects, focusing instead on capturing the nostalgic feel of the original Jurassic Park. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Edwards shared his vision for the film.

Entertainment Weekly also revealed four new images from the movie, showcasing the trio of main characters who bring a distinctly Jaws-like energy to the story.

Edwards described his approach, saying, “To me, it’s a giant love letter to Steven Spielberg and his earlier films. There are moments in this movie that remind me so much of Jaws. It’s like a collection of greatest hits from all those elements of his work I loved as a kid. Essentially, it’s a little adventure odyssey across the island—a survival story at its core.”

According to EW, Edwards draws parallels between the dynamic of the main trio and the iconic characters Brody, Hooper, and Quint from Spielberg’s 1975 classic Jaws, portrayed by Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, and Robert Shaw. Much like in Jaws, the trio in Jurassic World Rebirth represents a mix of personalities united by the perilous task of confronting a prehistoric predator.

Universal Pictures is set to release Jurassic World Rebirth in theaters on July 2, 2025.

Official Plot Synopsis:

“The planet’s ecology has become largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. The surviving creatures now exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates similar to those in which they once thrived. Within this tropical biosphere, three of the most colossal dinosaurs hold the key to a groundbreaking drug that promises miraculous, life-saving benefits for humanity.”

The film stars Academy Award® nominee Scarlett Johansson, with the screenplay penned by original Jurassic Park writer David Koepp.
