Danley Sound Labs' DTS10 subwoofers deliver deep infrasound on Hans Zimmer's U.S. orchestral tour.
New York, NY (November 11, 2024) – On the North American leg of the Hans Zimmer Live tour, the Oscar-winning composer is bringing his iconic film scores to life with newly arranged concert suites from Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Dark Knight, Interstellar, The Lion King, The Last Samurai, Dune, and more. Ensuring the sound quality matches the grandeur of Zimmer’s music is front-of-house engineer Colin Pink.
“The breadth of Hans’ music is incredible—it’s a pleasure to mix,” Pink said. “As an engineer, it presents numerous challenges, especially with the range of sounds, from intimate chamber orchestras to intense, punk-rock moments.”
One of the standout features of the tour’s audio setup is the handling of the low-end frequencies. To achieve the deep, immersive sound Zimmer envisions, the audio team removed the capacitors from all the keyboards in the production, allowing them to reach subsonic frequencies as low as 10 Hz. While most humans cannot hear frequencies below 20 Hz, the sensation of sound at 10 Hz is felt physically, with low-pressure vibrations stimulating the eardrums.
To bring these frequencies to life, the team turned to Danley Sound Labs’ DTS10 subwoofers. Designed for cinema environments, the DTS10 is capable of delivering incredibly low-frequency output, perfect for Zimmer’s dynamic score. “The Danley DTS10 subwoofers are elegant and provide the deep low-end extension we need,” said Pink. “They’re clean, powerful, and most importantly, there are no artifacts—just pure, high-quality low frequencies.”
With a dozen DTS10s deployed across the stage, the audio team was able to provide an unprecedented level of bass response, perfectly complementing Zimmer’s masterful compositions.
