Hamas has expressed readiness for a ceasefire in war-torn Gaza, urging former U.S. President Donald Trump to exert pressure on Israel to end the ongoing conflict.

Hamas has stated it is "ready for a ceasefire" in Gaza, with Bassem Naim, a leader of the Palestinian militant group, telling AFP that the group would agree to a ceasefire if a proposal is presented and respected by Israel. Naim also urged U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to apply pressure on Israel to end the ongoing conflict.

This statement came nearly a week after Qatar, which hosts much of Hamas' political bureau, suspended its role as a mediator in the war and called on all parties to demonstrate "seriousness."
