NEW YORK — Victor Wembanyama posted 19 points, seven rebounds, and six blocks, while Jeremy Sochan contributed 12 points and 14 rebounds to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 96-87 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night.
Julian Champagnie added 18 points, and Keldon Johnson finished with 15 points and six rebounds, helping the Spurs snap a two-game losing streak.
Keon Johnson led Brooklyn with a game-high 25 points, and Shake Milton chipped in 16 points and 12 assists. However, the Nets suffered their ninth loss in their last 12 games.
Takeaways
San Antonio: After struggling in the first half with a mere 27.5% shooting from the field, the Spurs found their rhythm in the second half, making 21 of 37 shots (56.7%).
Brooklyn: Playing the second game of a back-to-back and missing key players—leading scorer Cam Johnson (hip contusion) and assist leader Ben Simmons (lower back management)—the Nets struggled offensively, shooting just 38.9% and setting a season-low in points.
Key Moment
Wembanyama, who had just four points in the first half, erupted in the third quarter, scoring 11 points and hitting three 3-pointers during a 22-9 run that turned a two-point deficit into a 69-58 lead.
The Spurs also weathered a brief scare when Wembanyama left the game after an accidental headbutt from Jalen Wilson with 4:43 remaining in the third quarter. Despite his absence, San Antonio outscored Brooklyn 12-8 during that stretch and finished the quarter with a 33-21 advantage.
Wembanyama later confirmed he passed concussion protocols.
Key Stat
Wembanyama recorded at least four blocks for the fifth consecutive game and also tallied at least one 3-pointer and one block in his 22nd straight game.
