Nate Burleson: Travis Hunter and Fiancée Created Their Own Public Drama
Travis Hunter and his fiancée Leanna’s public issues are a result of their own actions, according to former NFL player and current CBS analyst Nate Burleson.
Burleson, who played 11 seasons in the NFL, told TMZ that Hunter should tone down discussions about his personal life after the Colorado star and his fiancée were recently forced to defend themselves against online critics.
Nate Burleson: "You Can't Complain" About Public Scrutiny After Sharing Personal Life
“It’s everybody else’s business because that couple put it out there,” Nate Burleson told TMZ. “You can’t complain when people respond. That’s social media. You can’t say, 'Mind your own business' or 'Keep your opinion to yourself' when you’ve shared everything with everyone.”
Social media users have criticized Leanna following several incidents that were captured in short videos posted online.
Leanna Explains Heisman Ceremony Moment After Social Media Backlash
One of the recent controversies surfaced during the Heisman ceremony when social media users criticized what they perceived as Leanna being instructed by Colorado football coach Deion Sanders to stand up after Travis Hunter was announced as a Heisman contender.
In response, Leanna clarified in a TikTok video last week, "When his name was called, I immediately stood up — but if you watch the video, his mom didn’t get up, so I thought, 'Maybe I’ll stay seated too.'"
Leanna continued, "As soon as I saw Travis get up, I thought it was the right moment to stand, greet him, and congratulate him. But then, I noticed a camera right in front of Coach Prime, and I knew they were going to capture that moment. Given how people can be online, I didn't want to be in that shot, so I decided to sit back down."
Travis Hunter also defended his fiancée during a live Twitch stream.
Burleson, a former receiver for the Vikings, Seahawks, and Lions, expressed sympathy for the situation and understood why Hunter felt the need to defend Leanna.
Speaking to TMZ, Burleson shared his own experience, recalling how people assumed his wife, Atoya, was with him simply because he was on his way to the NFL.
