Jalen Milroe delivered a standout performance on Saturday night, rushing for four touchdowns as No. 11 Alabama defeated No. 15 LSU, 42-13, keeping the Crimson Tide’s College Football Playoff hopes alive.
Milroe showcased his running ability early, with a 39-yard touchdown on Alabama’s opening drive. He sealed the game late with a 72-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, further exploiting LSU’s struggles against mobile quarterbacks. The Tigers had already been burned by Texas A&M's quarterback run game two weeks ago, and Milroe proved just as difficult to contain.
Milroe finished with 185 rushing yards on just 12 carries, taking a seat on the bench in the final minutes as Alabama maintained a commanding lead. The win marks LSU's third loss of the season, effectively eliminating them from playoff contention. After an opening loss to USC — a defeat that grows more painful with each Trojans loss — LSU's hopes now hinge on finishing the season strong. However, with a likely 9-3 record, the Tigers will likely miss out on the expanded postseason.
The LSU defense had no answers for Alabama's ground game, and the offense couldn’t keep up. Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier struggled in the rain, throwing two interceptions. The first came on LSU's opening drive of the second half, with Alabama leading 21-6. Nussmeier’s pass from the 4-yard line was intercepted by Deontae Lawson at the goal line, after the Tigers had already failed to convert on a previous trip inside the Alabama 10.
**Is Jalen Milroe in the Heisman Race?**
As Alabama’s star quarterback continues to shine, Milroe has re-entered the Heisman conversation. Through 11 weeks, the Heisman race has seen standout performances from players like Travis Hunter (Colorado), Dillon Gabriel (Oregon), Cam Ward (Miami), and Ashton Jeanty (Boise State). But Milroe, with his 16 rushing touchdowns and 13 passing touchdowns, is firmly in the mix, especially with Alabama still in the hunt for an SEC Championship.
While it's unlikely Milroe will claim the Heisman Trophy this season, don’t count him out as a finalist if Alabama keeps winning and Milroe maintains his dominant play.
