Although the political climate played a role, DeGeneres has also been dealing with fallout from allegations of a toxic work environment at the Ellen show, which led to her being "kicked out of show business" in 2022.
The couple has settled in the Cotswolds, a rural region in south-central England. Their Montecito home, located about 90 minutes from Los Angeles, is either pocket-listed or will soon be officially listed for sale. A representative from Riskin Partners, the real estate firm handling the property, did not immediately comment.
DeGeneres purchased the Montecito estate in 2019, and it became their primary residence. It's unclear what will happen to their other Southern California properties.
After concluding her comedy special and tour, DeGeneres has shifted focus. In her Netflix stand-up special Four Your Approval, she joked about her life post-Ellen, including taking up gardening and raising chickens.
In the special, DeGeneres reflected on the public's reaction to her departure from the spotlight, saying, "The 'be kind' girl wasn’t kind. That was the headline," humorously questioning if she should have ended her show with a different message.
