Scorecard

Bangladesh secured a commanding 154-run victory over Ireland in the opening ODI of the three-match series in Mirpur.

Chasing a target of 253, Ireland were bowled out for 98 in just 28.5 overs, losing their final five wickets for just 14 runs. Sarah Forbes top-scored with 25, while Laura Delany (22) and Orla Prendergast (10) were the only other players to reach double figures.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. Openers Murshida Khatun and Fargana Hoque Pinky laid the foundation with a 59-run stand before Khatun was dismissed for 19, caught by Aimee Maguire off Laura Delany’s bowling. Sharmin Akhter then came to the crease and made an outstanding 96 runs to anchor Bangladesh's innings.

Ireland's chase started poorly, with two quick wickets from Marufa Akter, removing captain Gaby Lewis for five and Amy Hunter for a duck. Although Forbes and Prendergast stabilised the innings briefly, Ireland were soon in further trouble. Prendergast's departure left them at 48-3, and Delany's 22 off 38 balls brought them to 84-5. However, after Delany's dismissal to Nahida Akter, Ireland's lower order collapsed, and they were bowled out for just 98.

The second ODI of the series will be played on Saturday, followed by three T20 matches between the teams.
